The theory that Scientology uses military tactics and strategy is not mine by any means. That can be credited to high-level Scientology defectors. (They are mentioned in the Jaschke Report, which I'm about 40% done translating, webbed at http://cisar.org/trn1000.htm.)

I don't want to over-emphasise this aspect, and think they are MORE organised and successful than they are. It is characteristic of psychotics - and learned psychosis, which is what this cult behaviour is - to decouple behaviour from feeling or instinct and use it as a deliberate instrument. That is what the TRs teach you to do.

All of what clams do at demos is generally a deliberate stratagem, some of it targeting realistic aims such as:

  1. demoralising you so you become less effective, or
  2. provoking you to strike them before a witness, or
  3. wasting your time to keep you from contact with the public, or
  4. information gathering aimed at the above practical purposes.

At least some of it is an absurd waste of their time following doctrinaire procedures: for example trying to find out what your crimes are and who is paying you, telling you to "get your ethics in mister" or other weird auditing commands. This is complete crap which makes sense only in their delusional world, and of zero practical effectiveness.

Also, to a clam, there is no difference between the sense and the nonsense side of it. They have learned to be insane. It is insane to say "don't you think it rude to protest outside a church" as a response to them murdering someone, disconnected from their real feelings, and immediately drop the tactic when it doesn't work. It is insane to ask people for a criminal or psychiatric history they don't have, and be nonplussed when they laugh at you. The former is insane in purpose but might work; the latter is as insane in method as fighting with a sword made of custard, and won't work. But, to a clam, both are simply following the tech.
