Alternative Technology Association vs. the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria In the 13 months that the ATA has been running the Breamlea wind generator, some interesting statistical comparisons have emerged: Alternative Technology Association State Electricity Commission Victoria ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | | \|/ \|/ V V Two consecutive months averaging (i) Jan-Feb 1992 averaged 15.1 kW 14.7 kilowatts (Oct & Nov 1995) (ii) Jul-Aug 1990 averaged 16.0 kW Three consecutive months with none of those months averaging below Never achieved this output 13 kilowatts (Oct, Nov & Dec 1995) Four consecutive months with no single month averaging less than Never achieved this output 11 kilowatts (Sep,Oct,Nov & Dec 1995) Six consecutive months with no (i) May to December 1990 was an single month averaging less than eight month interval meeting this 9.8 kilowatts Jul to Dec 1995 criterion (av = 11.9kW) (6-month average = 12.4 kW) (ii) Jun to Nov 1990 averaged 12.6 kW The Alternative Technology Association is a community group with membership open to the general public. A dedicated group of volunteers drawn from the ATA's membership has been responsible for the overhaul, re-commissioning, maintenance and SAFE and RELIABLE operation of this vanguard of the Victorian windpower industry. Since its erection in November 1987 the wind generator has produced over half a million kilowatt-hours of Greenhouse-friendly electrical energy. This saved three-quarters of a million kilograms of CO2 emissions. In the next 20 years AT LEAST TWO MILLION KILOWATT-HOURS MORE will be produced by this machine (representing about three million kilograms of CO2 saved). M. Gunter 1 January 1996
